One of the first things I had to answer when I decided to expand my blogging experiences is whether to stay on a free blogging platform or to get my own webhost and go self-hosted. Obviously, the latter won
I have no qualms about staying on a free blogging platform though. In fact, I still have two blogs hosted in Blogger’s free site, Daydream Believer and On A Diet Daw. They’ve been doing great there and I have enjoyed my stay there but because I want to try new things, I started looking for a way to host my own blogs. The plus side to being self-hosted is that there are more monetizing opportunities.
What I did to find my webhost is simple: I asked people. This is one thing I didn’t Google much because I felt it was important to find a host that people have tried or someone I can actually talk to. It’s hard to have a host who has no face to me. There are a lot of options out there, from very affordable plans out there. Some may go for as low as around $1-3 a month, some go for about $6-8. There are also packages being offered from big named sites like Go Daddy and Host Gator. Like I said, however, since I am new to this and I need a lot of support, I chose a host who I can bug via ym or plurk all the time hehe
My host for this site is Rubz Online. I availed of a promo package which is why this site was born! This is not my first solo-flight site, but I’m still trying to get the feel of things which is why at this time, I cannot really say what are the important things to consider in choosing a host. For me, my most important consideration is whether or not I can get a response for my inquiries. So far so good
